Many Christians do not believe that a Christian can be cursed nor do they understand what a curse really is.
A curse is a negative decree proclaimed upon someone for Material, Physical, Emotional, Psychological or Spiritual destruction or even Physical death.
Generational Curses are actually episodes of compulsive habits, contrary behaviors or reoccurring calamities that seem to beset members of the family born to that specific family bloodline.
It can be rape, poverty, stealing, divorce, bareness, miscarriages, alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual affections etc. The agents of these sins are demons which are being passed down through the blood.
Curses come from (2) major sources; "Almighty God Himself" and "the Devil".
Also, there are two (2) types of Curses, Generational Curses and Personal Curses.
Generational Curses are those that are being pass on from parents to offspring. Personal Curses on the other hand are those that come upon a person by their own personal actions.
(please refer to appendix A for 9 sources of curses based on Dr. Bill Subritzky's research)
GENERATIONAL CURSES
INHERITED FROM BLOODLINE
Curses can come upon a person by inheritance from the family bloodline. This also is a generation curse. Lamentations 5:7, "Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne (been punished for) their iniquities."
DEMONS TRANSFER THROUGH GENETIC INFORMATION
This curse can come directly from God Himself or through sin or an open door. A lot of curses from God are accomplish by divine decree with no demonic interference, but most are accomplish by the operation of Demons as the Lord allows, but all curses through witchcraft are accomplished by Demons.
The word Generation came from the word Gene, which is the DNA material of the all life force. When the bible talks about generation curses, it means curses that have been place in the gene of the family bloodline.
This curse can be an additional code within the DNA strand or it could just be a demonic spirit that has attached itself to the DNA or RNA, and manipulates the genetic information being pass on. This genetic information would then be a demonic false information and this would then be the blue print of the person’s life, so to speak.
If the curse were a sickness, then the demon would write an extra code within the person’s DNA. This then would send a message to the body to put an addition function in the body that is not normal. e.g. cancer, tumor or some other physical deformities. This is why the blood of Jesus, which contains the holy DNA of the Son of God, is essential to removing evil DNA codes from our body. When this divine work is finished, our bodies will be healed.
Whenever there is a generation curse, the demons goes down from family to family. Each person of the family these demons stopped with, the spirit gain more strength and grounds.
It is harder to cast out a family demon that entered the bloodline 7 generations aback than a family demon that entered the bloodline 2 generations aback.
GENERATIONAL CURSES THROUGH SINS
Involvement in sins can bring curses upon our lives and children. Every person is responsible for his lifestyle on earth knowing there are consequences to sinful actions and blessings to good actions. We see in John 9:1-3, “And as [Jesus] passed by, he saw a man which was blind from [his] birth.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?”
From this scripture, we see that the parents’ sins could bring a family curse of blindness.
Lam 5:7 Our ancestors sinned, but now they are gone, and we are suffering for their sins. This is the curse.
We also see in Deut 23:2 "No one born out of wedlock or any descendant of such a person, even in the tenth generation, may be included among the LORD's people.” Because of the parents’ sin of fornication, a curse came upon the generation.
In Korah’s case, the judgement upon him and his family was instant, Num 16.
As I said before, most curses are carried out by demons, and in most cases, the demons that carry the generation curses live inside the person. However, we must know that Demons cannot enter a person until given legal right. Ecc 10:8, “He who digs a pit shall fall into it; and whoever breaks a hedge, a snake shall bite him.”
Demons need an entry point through sins to be able to get into someone’s life and that entry point will be their door opener. This is called; a “Demonic Doorway”
There are spiritual laws within the spirit world, and the demons cannot violate these laws without severe consequences.
Just as we must open our heart for Jesus to come in, it is the same way a person must open his or herself for Demons to come in.
GENERATIONAL CURSES FROM GOD
Some do not believe that Almighty God can curse a person but here are evidences and examples of Curses from God starting with Isa 34:5, “For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.”
In the bible, we see repeatedly where God placed generation curses on certain people. An example is David in 2Samuel 12:10), “Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house;”
In the story of Elisha, Gehazi and Naaman, we see a generational curse was placed on Gehazi’s bloodline in 2Ki 5:27, “The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed forever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.”
ACCEPTING A CURSE ON YOUR BLOODLINE
Mat 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
These people ignorantly accepted a curse of murder upon their entire generation.
In our daily lives, we speak negative words that would later have effect on our family and ourselves. (calling yourself a Dusun=Basug or Budu, Bosuon, etc)
Proverbs 6:2 …”Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth”
Pro_18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
PERSONAL CURSES
PERSONAL CURSES FROM GOD
As I said earlier, many curses from God are accomplish by divine decree with no demonic interference, but most are accomplish by the operation of Demons. Personal Curses sent by God can range from demonization (1Sa 16:15), to confusion, personal disasters, sickness etc. as mentioned in Deuteronomy 28. According to scriptures, these curse are performed by Demons, even if God is the one who initiated and placed the curse. God, because of his purity and holiness, cannot perform a demonic curse; neither can his Angels. He uses the Demons to perform the curses and carry them out. This can be clearly seen in 2Co 12:7-8 and 2Ch 18:20-22.
Few examples: Deuteronomy 28:15-28 are listed curses from God Himself. This is not hereditary; it is curses from personal choices." Deut. 28:43 The sojourner who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower."
Another example is Jer 17:5, Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Jer 17:6, For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
In addition, we see in the case of Saul - 1Sa 16:14, “The LORD's spirit left Saul, and an evil spirit sent by the LORD tormented him.
1Sa 16:15 His servants said to him, "We know that an evil spirit sent by God is tormenting you.
1Sa 16:16 So give us the order, sir, and we will look for a man who knows how to play the harp. Then when the evil spirit comes on you, the man can play his harp, and you will be all right again."
1Sa 16:23 From then on, whenever the evil spirit sent by God came on Saul, David would get his harp and play it. The evil spirit would leave, and Saul would feel better and be all right again.
We also see a curse from God in Zechariah 5:1-4 where a curse was written and destined for the home of every thief and swearer.
Malachi 2:2, “yea, I have cursed them already ...I will even send a curse upon you,…”
Genesis 12:3, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee:”
Genesis 8:21, “And the LORD smelled a sweet savour …I will not again curse the ground”
Genesis 4:11, “And now art thou cursed from the earth,”
Genesis 5:29, “because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.” All of these are given because of rebellion towards God.
These curses are placed by God Himself, according to Deuteronomy 11:28, “And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known”;
PERSONAL CURSES THROUGH SINS
Involvement in sins can bring curses upon our lives. Many Christians who have had a rugged pass may have at some point dabbled into something sinful and open a doorway. According to the sin, it is possible for a curse to accompany the sinful act.
Many people are more concerned about generational curses and usually blame their current dilemmas upon generation curses, but hardly do an evaluation of their own personal life to blame their situations upon their own sins and iniquities. 2Co 13:5, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves”. 1Co 11:28, “But let a man examine himself,”
Every person is responsible for his or her lifestyle on earth knowing there are consequences to sinful actions and blessings to good actions.
PERSONAL CURSES BY WITCHCRAFT
Curses that come from Witches or occult practitioners are also very common. Nevertheless, these can only come upon a person who is active in sin, or who possesses an open door from past personal sinful actions or inherited doorways. These curses can be done from thousands of miles away, and can be very effective no matter the distance.
All curses from witchcraft are carried out by Demons. In most cases, when a wizard or witch is performing a curse upon someone, an item or name and/or date of birth of the victim is required for accuracy; not accuracy of the curse but to enable the Demons to find that person where every he or she is.
Psa 125:3, “For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity”.
In addition, when a curse is send against you, and it cannot touch you, it will linger, looking for a way to get to you. During this time, the demons will work hard to find your weaknesses and use them against you to cause you to fall into sin. If you fall into sin, this would give then a right to execute the curse. If the person do not fall into sin, the demons will return with that curse and it may place it upon the sender.
In the area of curses, if the Devil has legal ground he will try to dominate; for this is his right. That is why the devil and the demons always try to get a person to sin, for they know that only sin can open a doorway for them and give them legal right to ruin that person's life.
ACCEPTING A CURSE ON YOUR OWN SELF
Many times, we bring curses upon ourselves in the simpleness of ways. Here are few examples:
I’d be damned if…
I’m better off death
Don’t be jealous I’ve got nothing
We are like cats and dogs in the marriage/relationship
It will never work out
I’m Broke, Etc.
All these will have effect by continuing proclamation. Proverbs 6:2 …”Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth”
Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Ezekiel 18:20 - "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:30 "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Eze 18:31, "Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?"
Also in Jer 31:29, "When that time comes, people will no longer say, 'The parents ate the sour grapes, But the children got the sour taste."
Jer 31:30 "Instead, those who eat sour grapes will have their own teeth set on edge; and everyone will die because of their own sin."
Jer 31:31 "The LORD says, "The time is coming when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah".
Therefore, it is clear that before Deuteronomy God judged the children for what the parents did, but from Deuteronomy 24, God did not judge the children for the sins of the parents anymore. The children may reap what the parents have sown, but this is not a visitation by God upon the parents’ sins.
Appendix A
------------
SOURCE OF CURSES: by Bill Subritzky
1. God Himself God blesses and curses (Exodus 20:3&5)
Breaking the first two commandments:
(a) To have no other gods
(b) Idolatry
Our God is a jealous God
2. All occult practices Making occultism your God, eg a fortune teller. It is the power behind the fortune teller that matters. In four generations we can have upwards of 30 ancestors.
3. Men who speak on behalf of God
(a) Joshua 6:26, ie Joshua said, “Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds the city Jericho, he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.” This was fulfilled in 1 Kings 16:34 nearly 500 years later when Hiel of Bethel built Jericho, he laid its foundation with Abriam, his first born, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates according to the Word of the Lord which he had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun. Thus curses are self-perpetuating.
(b) 2 Samuel 1:21 Statement by David:
“Oh mountains of Gilboa,
Let there be no dew, nor let there be rain upon you,
Nor fields of offerings.
For the shield of the mighty is cast away there!”
These were the fields of Gilboa upon which Saul and Jonathan had died and David was cursing them. Nearly 3,000 years later this same curse was upon this land and the Jewish people had great difficulty a few years ago in trying to get trees to grow on it.
(c) 2 Kings 5 (Naaman) verse 27, cursed his servant with leprosy forever.
4. God’s servants can do this today eg Jesus cursed the fig tree and said, “You can do this also.”
5. Failure to renounce other gods and failure to honour our father and mother
Exodus 20:3-4: “You shall have no other gods before (besides) Me.” “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
The Bible says we must honour our mother and father:
Exodus 20:12: “Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you”.
Disobeying these commandments makes our prayers an abomination.
Proverbs 28:9: “One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.”
Failure to keep these two particular Commandments brings upon us all the curses referred to in the Bible in Deuteronomy 28.
Deuteronomy 27:15-16: ‘Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’
“And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen!’ ‘Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt.’
“And all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
(a) In Deuteronomy 28 the Bible lists 116 curses that God will bring upon us, if we disobey these two Commandments.
The curses include sickness, fever, itches, madness, blindness, confusion of heart, divorce, separation of family, hunger, thirst, nakedness, serious and prolonged sicknesses and many other curses.
(b) The Good News: At the Cross (Galatians 3:13 & 14) Jesus Christ became a curse so that we could be set free from all these curses of the law and come into the blessings of Abraham. In order to come into this blessing, we must renounce all other gods and honour and forgive our parents.
6. Persons with relational authority eg husband over wife, parents over children. Words spoken have supernatural powers. The blessing of the father is important.
(a) Genesis 31 - Jacob and Rachel: Rachel had stolen her father’s gods. Jacob did not know this and he said to her father, Laban: “‘With whomever you find your gods, do not let him live. In the presence of our brethren, identify what I have of yours and take it with you.’ For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.” (Genesis 31:32) ie, he was in effect saying that she should die, although, of course, he did not know she had stolen them and that she would feign sickness to avoid being discovered. She later died in childbirth.
(b) Examples where husband curses his wife or parents curse their children, eg a husband says to his wife, “You cannot cook”, or the following statements are made in respect of other people including children:
“You are no good”
“You are useless”
“You are a failure”
“You will never be any good”
“You are hopeless”
“You will never achieve anything”
“You are ugly”
“You are a bad person”
“You are always a liar”
“It’s in the family and you are sure to get it”
7. Self-imposed curses which become like inner vows. Examples:
“I’ll never be any good”
“I’ll never forgive myself”
“God doesn’t love me”
“I’ll never speak to ..... again”
“I hate myself”
“No-one loves me”
“I want to die, I’m better off dead”
Examples from Scripture:
(a) Genesis 27:13 Rebekah said:
“Let your curse be on me”
and in verse 46 she said:
“I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; ...what good will my life be to me?”
She brought a curse on herself.
(b) Matthew 27:24&25, the Jews said, “Let His blood be on us and our descendants”. (c) Peter denied the Lord three times
8. Curses brought on by unscriptural covenants:
Exodus 23:32: “You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.” We are to make no covenant with those who are not committed as Christians. Freemasonry is an example of that with self-imposed curses, eg the 32nd degree 2 Corinthians 6:14-17: “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”
9. Curses put on by the servants of Satan eg witch doctors, medicine men, tohungas etc.
Example: Numbers 22:4&6. Note this was a request by Moab to Balam to pronounce curses on Israel. It was a matter of their gods versus the true God. When people fought one another in the old days, they regarded it as a fight between their gods and the other gods, eg David and Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:43: “ So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.”
Other reasons for curses:
1. Objects in homes (Deuteronomy 7:26) We are to have no abominable thing our home. This can cause children
2. Soul ties These are soul ties which are contrary to God’s purposes. Eg, in adultery, fornication (especially past sexual relationships). Ungodly soul ties can bring spiritual sickness.
1 Corinthians 6:18: “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.”
Examples of wrongful sex are as follows: Pre-marital sex Perverted sex
Trial marriages Homosexuality Lesbianism Pornography and fantasy Bestiality Transvestism
Sexual abuse Oral sex
Consequences:
(a) Establishment of soul ties and bondings in the flesh other than with God’s intended partner.
(b) Guilt and condemnation
(c) Demonisation
(d) Emotional disturbance
What is sexual abuse?
Uninvited caressing
Uninvited handling of the sexual areas
Anal handling
Masturbation in front of a person
Forced oral sex
Forced mutual masturbation
Forced intercourse and rape
Bestiality
Ritualistic sex
Incest
All of these cause fear, confusion, deception. Long term problems:
(a) Confusion of one’s identity, sexuality,
physical position and emotional situation.
(b) Causes regression and repression of memories. Causes fantasy.
(c) Breaking of trust.
(d) Causes rebellion including:
(i) self rejection
(ii) fear of rejection and
(iii) anger.
(e) Causes guilt and fear.
(f) Causes inability to respond to love.
(g) Causes desire to die.
(h) Causes physical illness.
(i) Causes damage to the spirit.
Also domination by one person over another, eg where a father dominates or sexually abuses his daughter.
HOW TO BE RELEASED FROM THE CURSE:
1. We must recognise that there is a curse.
2. We must repent from all sin.
3. We must renounce it in the name of Jesus Christ.
4. We must resist, eg James 4:7: “Therefore submit to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
5. Use the Word of God. The Word of God is powerful and such Scriptures as the following can be used:
Psalm 118:17:
“I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the Lord.”
We must realise that where there is a negative there should also be a positive. We recall that Peter denied the Lord three times but three times Jesus asked him, “Do you love me?”
Peter had to revoke his earlier statement three times.
Where curses have arisen from the servants of Satan, we must recognise Luke 10:19: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
SUMMARY
1. Confess our faith in Jesus Christ.
2. Commit ourselves to be obedient to God and to hear and do what He says. 3. Confess any known sins on our own part or of our ancestors.
4. Forgive others.
5. Renounce the occult on our own part or on the part of our ancestors.
6. Renounce all contact with heathen objects.
